About SSVIR
Who we are
The Swiss Society for Vascular and Interventional Radiology (SSVIR) is a non-profit medical subspecialty society. Its members are radiologists who perform, or take a particular interest in, vascular and interventional radiology, together with residents in training, colleagues abroad and partners of the society.
Founded in 2001, SSVIR is affiliated with the Swiss Society of Radiology (SGR-SSR) and is led by an executive committee of five members elected by the General Assembly.
What we do
- Education — continuing education courses, the SSVIR session at the Swiss Congress of Radiology, an online mediacenter and support for trainees.
- Quality and standards — recognition of guidelines, participation in the evaluation of good medical practice and support for structured training such as the European Board of Interventional Radiology (EBIR).
- Representation — a voice for interventional radiology towards hospitals, other medical societies, authorities and tariff partners.
- Patient information — clear, reliable information on image-guided treatments and on where to find them in Switzerland.
A multidisciplinary specialty
Interventional radiology sits at the crossroads of imaging, surgery, oncology, vascular medicine and many other fields. SSVIR therefore works closely with the SGR-SSR, with Swiss clinical societies and with international organisations such as the Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiological Society of Europe (CIRSE).
Our Mission
Our guiding principles are quality, professionalism and ethics in the care of patients. In line with our statutes, the society's goals are to:
- promote training and research in vascular imaging and interventional radiology;
- organise postgraduate and continuing education in all areas of interventional radiology;
- take part in the evaluation of good medical practice in vascular imaging and interventional radiology;
- foster exchanges and relationships with similar Swiss and international societies;
- represent the subspecialty of interventional radiology towards other Swiss and international societies active in the field;
- defend the professional interests of its members;
- collaborate with the Swiss Society of Radiology (SGR-SSR) in vascular imaging and interventional radiology.
Working Groups
SSVIR working groups bring together members with experience in a given topic — for example patient information, quality and registries, or tariffs — and report to the committee. The working groups are currently being redefined; their topics and members will be published here.
Members who would like to contribute, or to propose a topic, are welcome to contact the secretariat.
